Step off at 4:30. A second line march along the 125th Street corridor featuring more than 60 musicians. A musical tribute in honor of fallen heroes and heroines of jazz. Led by the great James Carter and Revival Ambassador TS Monk. The march will leave from the Red Rooster at 4:30 pm and proceed to the Victoria (Renaissance Hotel) with a stop at Harlem State Office Building where the names of fallen greats will be read. It will be followed by a great night of music all over Harlem with over 6 events following the parade. A joyful and inspirational start to the 10 day Harlem Jazz Club Revival festival!! Higgins has performed with Count Basie and Duke Ellington Orchestras, Barry Harris, Archie Shepp, Jimmy Scott, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and The Sugar Hill Jazz Quartet. Higgins is a Broadway musician and an educator. Globally known, yet he has held a residency for over 25 years in Harlem.

Circular Time is a tight, blues, cross-over band with a powerful horn sectionthat performs blues, jazz, funk, zydeco, afro-pop, reggae, soca, and classic rock. The core part of the group has been together since 1998. They can move from a hard edged blues, a beat, a transition, to a soca that might incorporate a dash of samba, or merengue, followed by a funk, or an original house/afro-pop, to a Coltrane, or a Albert King ballad or a Herbie Hancock.

A Pine Bolt, Miss native, turned International Entertainer is the 1st Ever Winner of BET’s Apollo Live since its return. An R&B/Soul Singer and songwriter, Greginald is the current “Set It Off Man” of Amateur Night at the legendary Apollo Theater. His buttery tone and smooth delivery would make musical influences like Luther Vandross, Gerald Levert, Johnny Gill & Freddy Jackson proud.

A Chicago native, Ada started singing in high school. She first came to the attention of soul music fans through her note-worthy contributions to some of Norman Connor’s most popular work in the late Seventies. Ada, singing under her full name of Adaritha, sang the leads on several of Norman’s songs, including ‘Take It To The Limit’, ‘Handle Me Gently’, ‘You Been On My Mind’, ‘You Bring Me Joy’ and ‘Be There In The Morning’. As Ada Dyer she has cut two solo albums for Motown: Meant to Be (1988) and Ada Dyer (1990). She has toured with Chaka Khan, Roberta Flack, Lenny Kravitz, and Boz Skaggs, and her studio credits include U2, Sting, Cher, Ronnie Spector, Bruce Springsteen and Luther Vandross.

Rashaan Salaam was born and raised in Miami, Florida and has been infatuated with music since childhood. His family is originally from Trinidad and Tobago, so calypso and soca music were early influences. Salaam’s grandfather was a violinist and a pianist. However, he passed away exactly a year before Salaam was born. After years of studying piano, Salaam transferred to trombone. Being introduced to masters such as Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and J.J. Johnson changed his life forever. Salaam inevitably found New York, and knew this was the place for him to thrive musically, but knows it takes work to make a career in the Big Apple. Salaam is on his musical journey and we’re excited to see what his future holds.

Nate Lucas , born and raised in New York City. He began studying music at the age of 7. He first studied guitar under the incomparable Skeeter Best. At age 8 he moved on to the piano. Nathan was introduced to Jazz by his legendary Saxophonist father Max “the Sax” Lucas. Nathan has shared the stage with some of the giants in the business such as George Benson, Russell Malone, Lou Donaldson, Jimmy McGriff, Etta Jones, Alyson Williams, Roy Ayers, and a multitude more. He has also held a residency on Lenox Ave.

He holds a Masters in Performance from the Manhattan School of Music. As an accomplished Musician, Mr Greenwich has performed at Bill T. Jones Dance Co., Apollo Theatre, Radio City Music Hall, Lincoln Center, Madison Square Garden and Carnegie Hall with Artists such as: Natalie Cole, Gladys Knight, Dionne Warwick, Anita Baker, Kenny Latimore, Ray Chew, Joseph Joubert, Danny Mixon, Shirley Ceasar, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Gloria Estafan and Marc Anthony.
At the American Legion Post 398 you get to hear jazz played the old fashioned way, in a row of brownstones on 132nd Street, down a few steps to the ground floor, where musicians and jazzers from Harlem, and tourists from all over the world have gathered for decades. Don’t forget to sign the book!

Harlem legend Phil Young has been playing drums on and off since Bobby Blue Bland spotted him at an amateur night at the Apollo Theatre, at fifteen, and invited him to come play in black night clubs across the South. Since then, he has toured internationally and played with greats such as Stanley Turrentine, George Benson, and Dizzy Gillespie.

With her elegant and sophisticated style, Lady Cantrese has been entertaining audiences since she was a youth. Harlem grown, Cantrese began singing when she joined the school’s first Glee Club.Cantrese has performed in several venues throughout New York City. In addition she continues to bring her considerable musical talent to many private events. She has toured Italy and toured Japan . She’s performed with Patience Higgins & The Sugarhill Jazz Quartet at St. Nicks Pub and Grammy Nominated vocalist Gregory Porter for the Production of “Berta’s Jam” Produced By Voza Rivers of The New Heritage Group in Association with Community Works and her Mother Berta Indeed. She’s performed with Olu Dara, Cassandra Wilson, Madame Pat Tandy and Baby Washington. Just to name a few.

This recently retired NYC Vocal Music teacher has led choruses, directed musicals, and shared her love of Jazz with a multitude of children. Vocalist Nikita White began singing at a young age in her family’s Baptist Church on the Northwest side of Chicago. Inspired by her large musical family, she performed with local R&B, rock, and blues bands before she started attending jazz jam sessions and began working with tenor saxophone great Von Freeman. In 1980 she moved to New York where she studied voice with Dr. Barry Harris’ vocal workshop, recorded with George Braith, and worked with a variety of notable artists including Mulgrew Miller, Kenny Washington, Peter Washington, Henry Butler, Russell Hall and Lafayette Harris. She has toured in Europe and Africa, and studied at Long Island University.

Manny’s Boogaloo Crew is a LATIN FUNK Band Lead by Eusebio ‘MANNY’ Montanez. Manny is al Rumbero, born in West Harlem & raised in the Bronx. Growing up a few blocks from the Apollo Theater, then later cutting his teeth on the (Rumba) jam sessions in the Bronx. The band lays down cool Afro-Cuban Rumba, laced with Funky R&B sounds, pushed by the Latin mellow of the Boogaloo groove.
